My X205 took a crap on me today, shut it down as normal, tried to bring it up later on and it wouldn't boot, wouldn't repair and wouldn't even do a system restore. Had to do a complete re-install of X64. Now I can't seem to find a driver for the Mass Storage Controller.

Does anyone know what this driver is called and where I can find it? It's for the X205 in my sig.

    Thanks

Toshiba's website should have the driver, and the driver should also be on the driver disc which came with your laptop.

Usually the operating system will have a generic driver it can install for these things.

You'd think, but it isn't locating it from my factory disc and the Toshiba Support website is next to useless. I'm trying the TI Card reader driver again to see if maybe that's it and it was just a botched install somehow. Running out of ideas though.

Turns out it was the card reader crap.........

Well I am not so sure if you need a driver, if the harddrive boots, the drive is working and thus doesnt need one, however it may just not perform as well without the driver.

Go to the device manager and look in the mass storage tab and see if there is any problem shown.

It definitely makes a difference in boot up time without it working. Turns out it was the TI Card Reader garbage that I never use anyway.

I would like to remove cd/dvd from notebook and use extension ribbon cable to connect cd/dvd making drive external. Anyone have suggestions on where to purchase such ribbon cable? Thank you.

most all slim-line laptop CD/dvd drives use a strange connector despite the fact that they connect to an ATA/IDE interface, the connector is not like the connectors on hard drives (even 2.5" notebook drives)

i've never seen such a cable... maybe someone else here can help you.. but to get more REPLIES you should CREATE your own thread describing your question or situation!!
