Hey there, I'm looking forward to buy a new laptop, and I have some questions about its hardware.

Is DDR3 *MUCH* better than DDR2? I mean, would it be better to have 4GB DDR3 than 6GB DDR2?

    Is it worth downgrading a NVIDIA GTX 260M for a 230M, for having an i7 720QM instead of a Q9000 ?

Are there much difference between 15.6" screens to 17.3" ones? I really dont know much of it and I have no idea about the TRUE size difference.

Thanks in advance for your patience.

DDR3 isn't better than DDR2 at all in any real life situations right now. 6GB DDR2 > 4GB DDR3. If you play any games, stick with the GTX 260M since GPU is more important. Go to Best Buy or a store with floor models and test it out. That's really the only way you will see the size difference.

I have another question If it's not too late to post it right now, haha.
Is it worth getting a Q9000 or a P8700? I must say I do not use computer only for gaming, but I like multitasking too. I have a Q6600 desktop and I just love it, thought sometimes games get a lil slow.. well, I don't know, lets say i use my computer 60% for gaming and 40% for multimedia stuff.

Have a long look at This.

If you are CPU bound Core i7 should fit your bill, however, I would not DOWNGRADE to a 230M, unless it was MXM.

Maybe one day all NB's will have Slotted CPU/GFX!

As to DDR3, only IF you go Corei7 do you have any chance of NEEDING the extra bandwidth, 800Mhz DDR2 ram with good spec. timing can far surpass the System BUS speeds of any FSB archatexture, when it comes to NB's, but Corei7 does not have a FSB so we'll have to see how that stacks up.

Does anyone have a link to compare DDR3 in a Mobile Corei7 system?

    No, it only uses DDR3.

Thanks very much for everyone who answered me, I really appreciate your help.
And what about P8700 vs Q9000, what do you think about it?

    Cheers

The P8700 can be quite enough for most stuff. But it all depends if your game can make use of multiple cores. If so, the Q9000 wins, if not then the P8700 is great option.

Also, no one mentionned it, but going from 15.6" screens to 17.3" is quite a jump, in general. But some 15.6" are still big in size and can come close to a 17.3" (like the M15x vs the GT729). So I would suggest taking a look at the laptop in person. I chose the M860TU because of it's protability over a 17".

But, we can compair Lower spec. DDR3 to better Spec. DDR3, if it shows improvement in Real World Apps, then we will know if it's worth getting better DDR3 for i7, and we will know i7 can utilize DDR3 Ram's Higher Bandwidth.

We already know FSB CPU's and NorthBridges can't, so no need to compare to DDR2.
