I have an old Compaq Presario 3000. Actually, I am using it right now while I wait for my new computer to come. Anyway, I do not know where to look for a power receptacle replacement. The female end of the power plug is broken. I was told that I will need to take apart the laptop and remove the whole section and solder in a new one. Right now, I have power on by placing two, super thin hair clip ends on the outside of the little prongs to hold the power. I don't have a battery for the notebook. I have been powering it with the ac adapter. It is still usable for business applications, so I want to try and salvage it. Other than the power hardware problem, it is otherwise fine. :)

Thank you in advance for any part leads!

So the female part of the power jack on the motherboard is broken - correct?

If so, you will have to take the entire laptop apart in order to get a soldering iron in their to remove the old jack. You will have to replace the jack with an identical but working one. Then after that is done, you can put the system back together and use it again

What does the power jack on your laptop look like, a picture would be helpful.
If compaq does not have any replacement power jack's you will have to buy a new one from an electronics retailer. I suggest using mouser electronics because they are a huge warehouse, and I have never no been able to find something on their website. They have everything

    This looks like it:

I would check their reseller ratings before giving them your credit card info

I've replaced a few on both compaqs and hps and find it to be a pretty uneventful task. If you have any experience at all with a soldering iron, you should be able to have the whole "operation" finished in about an hour. It seems daunting at first, but it's really not that bad. :)
