Just curious, have Nvidia fixed the heating problems for the graphic cards, 8400 and 8600? I haven't heard any words after they stated about the problem![]()

Yes. New soldering and manufacturing processes. (at least according to Dell Inc.)
-
They are not going to fix the ones that are currently defective. But word is newer ones shouldn't have the same problems because they changed a part out.

No Have not done just wait!

Well, on my Dell XPS M1330, the GPU used to idle at ~75 degrees C. High was over 100! Of course, the GPU died on me, and I got a replacement motherboard (incl. of course GPU) and a replacement Heatsink-solution. Now the GPU idles at ~50 degrees C (used to at ~45, but after switching to the new 7200rpm harddrive, temperatures have risen app. 4-6 degrees across the boardI) High for the GPU is now ~80 degrees... -
temagic I am happy for you all is good. But by having to keep temps down as low as you are? Is that a fix? Just asking.
-
well, if they did fix it. can anyone tell if this is fix before i am going to purchase it

If by "fixed" you mean "the band-aid solution of cranking up the fan to maximum through BIOS updates whenever the slightest load was placed on the GPU," then yes.
If by "fixed" you mean "correcting the manufacturing process that causes the issue in the first place," then look for a GeForce starting with 9. -
UPDATE: there is no fix for Asus with GF84/86 as I last heard you can only update the BIOS. There is a new patch that allows the fan to run extremely fast and I heard the battery may drain because of this. Unless you RMA to Asus for a new replacement for the soldering if available.

The bios update that makes the fan run faster (or start-up sooner) is a simpe temporary fix that won't prevent the inevitable.
I wouldn't bother with that.
Try finding a laptop with Mobility Radeon HD 3650 in that price range instead.
That gpu is more powerful than 8400 GS in the asus laptop for one thing.
Also ... if you can stretch your budget up to $1200 or $1300 (maybe there's even a lower priced laptop), rather focus on a laptop with 9600m GT DDR3 (that's essentially the only mid range mobile gpu unaffected - for now - with the soldering issue to my knowledge).
Rather don't mess with 8400m GT or 8600m GT.
Has Nvidia fixed the heating problems for 8400 & 8600 yet?
