Anyone have experience with getting a hdd from Amazon? They are cheaper than newegg for some of the drives I'm considering. Only concern is their packaging isn't always great and this concerns me for a bare drive.

Got my Momentus XT from there...no issues with the packaging; you'll be fine.

Amazon's packing is good, I got all my lenses from Amazon and had no problem with it

The last notebook drive I ordered from Amazon was packed thus:
Drive --> Anti-static bag --> Molded plastic at both ends of the drive --> Small box --> Larger box with those plastic airbags protecting the small box
That was a great packing job. Better than Newegg as a matter of fact. -
i haven't bought one but amazon generally packs their products very well!

I bought two hard drives from Amazon, a boxed Hitachi Travelstar 0S02858 and a bare Western Digital Scorpio Black WD5000BEKT. Both were packaged well and securely. In particular, the bare WD HD, intact and sealed in its manufacturer's plastic bag, was packed in a sturdy cardboard box with internal holders to secure it and the WD box was packed in a shipping box with abundant air-filled packing cushions. I was very pleased with Amazon's packing and shipping of the WD HD. I bought an identical HD from Newegg several weeks afterwards and it was packed similarly, although if I had to vote for best-packed, Amazon would win by a small margin.

Why on earth would you think that a seller, especially one as large as Amazon, would not know how to ship the drives they sell?
Like everyone else has said, it will be fine.

Plus in the highly unlikely event it's not good, Amazons return policy is top notch.

considering how many sellers, both internet and retail stores, are selling HDDs at good prices there is absolutely no reason to deal with any seller you feel uncomfortable with.
amazon included. -

amazon is pretty much the best as far as i am concerned. i agree that you shouldn't deal with anyone you don't want to, but I can't think of somewhere I would rather purchase anything given that the price is right on the zon.
Has anyone bought a HDD from Amazon?
