Did it work?
Zalman RC56 (7V) Noiseless Resistor Cable

tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
Why would you want to try this?
Not only will the fan expel less heat from the case, the resistor will also be adding to the heat generated.
Simply get a quieter, slower fan. -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I've had a couple in my desktop, and they typically work fine... but whether or not you'd want to put 'em in a laptop is another story. No reason it shouldn't work from a technical perspective, though.

it would ... prob be easier to use a resistor chart and splice your own resistor in. about $0.15 plus a dab of solder. or get fancy and put in a variable resistor ( potometer ) to make it fully adjustable

or..... shop around for a fan that makes less noise......
physically larger fans can spin at a lower rpm and move more air with less noise.
Has anyone ever used a noiseless resistor cable to reduce fan RPM?
