I was one of those folks that took advantage of Circuit City's $449 Toshiba A105-S2141. The only "negative" to this laptop is its Celeron M 410. Fortunately, it is a Yonah-based core, so I could upgrade to a Yonah core solo or core duo in the near future -- and perhaps to the Core2 duo thereafter.
Does anyone have experience w/ CPU upgrades on the A105?
Applications for the PC do not necessarily warrant the upgrade at this point, but I would like to see what others have done. At some point, I predict that the Yonah dual cores will "flood" the market as folks upgrade.

Which chipset does it have. Is it the i945 or i940?
Run the Intel chipset identification utility and see which one you have...
http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/sb/CS-009266.htm
I am not quite sure, but according to Intels spec sheet the 940 seems to be capable of supporting only the Yonah Celeron's. -
The Intel app did not work, as the chipset is not an Intel chipset. It is an ATI Xpress 200M.
CPUZ showed these details:
chipset: ati rs400/rc400/rc410
southbridge: ati sb400
Off to search some more -
I'm hoping to do an upgrade up to a core 2 duo yonah , I have an A105-S2231 with the celeron m 420 processor yonah based and the ati 200m express also although I can't get a straight answer on the socket type either 478 or 479 not sure ??

Hoo boy, this is a tough one.
The only sure way is to open up the laptop and check the mobo, or to take off the cpu, but I don't suggest that...
You may be stuck with the celery... But considering you got a great deal, what is the problem -
so far everything I've seen points to our yonah based processor in the 65nm to be compatible to an extent ( you might need a bios update and the right intel video chipset 945 or 940 not sure) it also shows that merom processors also use our socket type so we may have lucked out since we have ati and not the intel video chipset , I believe it should work I ordered a core 2 duo yonah should be here in 2 weeks . Let me see if I can build the guts up to work on my first laptop , I've built quite a few desktops but I definately know it's not the same.

I had to look deeper into our situation and have some small details to change we can definately install any core solo , core duo yonah based , a core 2 duo yonah and merom will fit but will not work at all in our motherboard due to the ati xpress 200m I finally made up my mind and am picking up a core duo 2.0ghz t2500 which will drop in no prob. here goes the instructions on how to take the laptop apart http://www.laptopka.com/2006/03/18/removing-laptop-motherboard/
rogabean from another board was a great help figuring out this mess -
I completely forgot about this forum and am only here because I found the link burried in my favorites... any how....
I have since then upgraded my laptop A105- S2231 with the following
T2600 Intel Core Duo
2GB PC5300 DDR Ram
Windows Vista Ultimate X86
upper cover is now metallic light silver green with appropriate stickers replaced ( Celeron now Core Duo, Ati, Vista in their respective places)
I decided to go with the T2600 instead of the T2500 for obvious reasons ( more power ) T2700 wasn't available at the time of my upgrade.
The motherboard accepted the Intel chip with no probs whatsoever and is operating at 667mhz fsb @ 2.16GHZ x2 , Chip was recognized right away and drivers were installed automatically in Vista I expect the same in XP
If you plan on doing this upgrade my only recommendation would be artic silver, a can of compressed air and a lot of patience. The A105 chassi is very easy to work with but fragile when separating... take care not to completly pull appart, gently separate but not all the way reach in and pull the ribbon cables and wifi cables, other than that the rest is easy to figure out. While your in there clean out all the dust as this causes heat issues regardless of which processor you decide to upgrade ( or keep ). Any questions I'll be glad to help.

So, I have the A105-S1013 version of the laptop. Will that work with a T2700?
-
If i could read vsho's post correctly T2700 should work fine, as he states that it was not present at the time of upgrade.
-
A T2300, T2400, T2500, T2600, and T2700 will all work in your laptop.
The T5300, T5500, T7200, T7400 and T7600 are all other good options.
The T2700 is much cheaper than the T7600, but performance will be similar unless your software needs virtualization technology.

If it heps, Belarc reports my board as ATI SB450 Rev0.4b -
I wouldnt see any problems, with installing a T7xxx socket M chip.
The only thing you need to worry about is bios limitations. In your case the bios may limit the system to only use T2xxx socket m chips. I do not know if your bios supports T7xxx chips, that would be something to research online.

I think back in late '07, I upgraded an A105-S4294 from a T2050 to the T7400 and it did need the recent BIOS for the revision. Note, the BIOS flash was not compatable w/ x64 OS so I had to create an old 32 bit OS just to update. I also run PC2-6400 cl5 RAM run at 667 w/ cl4 timings. I also dropped in a 4965 N card in and added the 3rd wire antenna and it took and runs great. Now under Vista Enterprise x64.
Has anyone upgraded the CPU on their A105?
