So I bought a Belkin anti-static wrist strap yesterday as I'm planning to upgrade the hard drive in my laptop. But when I actually looked at it when I came home, it has an AC plug or one that looks like it instead of the banana plug and alligator/crocodile clip that was advertised on the store's website.
No wonder it was so cheap >.>
So I'm hoping that someone on these forums has used this type of wrist band before as trying to get in contact with the store is useless and I haven't heard back from Belkin yet.
Thanks in advance!

Sure, it should be fine - just plug it in. It'll be using the mains socket to connect to earth, the two AC pins won't actually be used.
I have a similar plug on my own bench - it has a metal earth pin, but the two AC pins are actually plastic. -
That will work or you can just replace the HDD while standing on tile and touch a piece of metal to discarge any static.

*sob* Why bother?

Let me get this straight! I have been doing this wrong for so many years and never had problem? Hmm............. latex gloves and a full body strap!

just dont wear a sweater and walk on thick carpet.
ground yourself by touching a faucet or tap.
even without doing all that, my past upgrades have been fine. just find a ground -
^^^^In winter!

Damnit, I used the wrong choice of words. When I said AC plug I meant like an AC adapter that you would plug into your laptop or cell phone.
Has anyone used this type of anti-static wrist strap?
