No. And that is not a laptop drive either. Although it is in the 2.5" form factor, it is too tall to fit into almost all laptops.

They were announced about a month or two ago. There's a news article about the GoFlex version here. Not heavy on the details, but it's almost certainly another 12.5mm high drive like the previous 750 GB and 1 TB drives.

I think it must be, because the listed external dimensions for the 750 GB, 1 TB, and 1.5 TB Expansion Portable hard drives are all the same, so unless there was unused extra space in that casing beforehand, the dimensions (of the bare drive) must be (roughly) the same.

    It would make sense yes.

I also don't seen any other explanation for the WD5000BEVT benchmarks.

It's strange then there's no 9.5mm 1TB drive yet. Or maybe it does exist but we're not aware of it.

Seagate has a million different versions of those HDDs. Would not surprise me at all if they are two different models there.

i probably wouldn't want the first generation ones.. will consume a lot of power , have 4200rpm and still be way slower than smaller drives even though they have bigger platter density...

Some of the larger 2.5" HDD's are actually 15mm rather than 12.5mm.

That explains it. So the 1.5TB drive could have four platters.
