ok i got this computer about a 8 months ago and ever since i got it, it seems like its been going pretty slow considering it is a intel core 2. well i only have 1 gb of ram, so could that be it? the chip is a t5300 which i think runs at a FBS of 533mhz. so if the ram is slower than that could that be a problem?

if it isnt slower than the FBS then do i need more ram ? i am running windows XP.
another question is can i upgrade to a faster chip w/out frying it? do i need to get any kind of special fans? any info would be appreciated.

    ps: its a dell 9400.

Your problem is most likely not hardware related, but software related. You should de-fragment, clean your registry, remove unnecessary startup processes, check for viruses and malware etc.

I have a T5300 in my E1505, which is basically my college laptop. It is actually quite fast. I do have it paired up with a fast harddrive and 2gb of memory, so that could be why yours is not running so fast.

I would recommend cleaning your registry, and running msconfig. WIth msconfig, you can shut off the background processes, services and programs which you do not always use. This will help speed up the system, and decrease boot times because the system resources will not be used as much.

If your system is still running slow, I advise purcahsing 1 or 2 more Gb of memory, and maybe a faster harddrive.

In the processor department, you have a socket M processor, so you can upgrade to a T7200, T7400, or T7600. All carry a pretty high price tag, so upgrade the memory first, since it is the cheapest upgrade to get.

Just make sure it's DDR2 and is of a decent brand. The slight difference in bus speed won't make a noticeable difference.

Download SiSoftSandra (free) and benchmark your CPU,RAM and HDD see how your hardware is. Also you don't describe the issues you are having so hard to advise. 1GB should work alright with XP.
