    Hd6970s in a dell m17x-r1

    so i have a question for you guys since i havnt really seen anything on the internet and i really dont want to read through 378 pages on this fourm. im looking at buying the 6970 from the seller upgradeyourlaptop but will this card work in the m17x the first one from dell with the core2quad instead of the r2 with the i7? thanks for any help

    I would bet money against it working. Just save your money and buy a base config R4 when they come out in a few months. That'll be faster in every way and covered by warranty.

    Where are you located? Maybe someone with a 6970m is willing to try it.

    The m17x r1 does not work well with GTX 560m, 460m cards because of something like a hardcoded display structure in the BIOS or proprietary LCD cable. Therefore it may not work well, and if nothing else, running 2 cards in crossfire is a bad idea because you'll probably be exceeding the notebooks internal power circuitry by quite a bit.

    you should really post this in the alienware m17x forum and no i dont think the 6970 is supported by the bios. You can use 5870 in crossfire there is a thread on it in the fourm i mentioned
