Here are the Hdtune, hdtach and ATTO results of the new 120 GB SSD from Supertalent. This SSD uses the slower Multi Level Cell technology. I bought this drive last Friday from Newegg for 649 USD.

Not bad, not bad.. It'll be sweet in gaming, though!
-
That isn't off appreciably from the specs. What are the specs of the machine you're running it on?
Cheers, -
$649 for 120Gb...we are getting there...
-
Those benchmarks look great - what were the testing conditions? Did you have an OS/files already loaded on the drive or did you test the drive via eSATA enclosure? Also were the tests run in safe mode?
Thanks! -
I installed the drive on my HP NC8430 laptop Core 2 Duo 2 GHz, 3 GB's RAM, Windows XP SP3. I did a clean install of XP, no the tests weren't run in safe mode. Should they have been?

Jedi:
How does it compare to the mechanical drive you replaced?
Cheers, -
-
The mechanical drive that I had in there was a 100 GB 5400 RPM Hitachi drive. It had a access time of 17 ms. I can't remember what the transfer speed was though. This drive seems more responsive than my mechanical drive.
-
Do you feel that the SSD is significantly faster than your old hard drive though? I'm assuming yes but would like to hear what you've noticed in real-world usage.
-
Yes it's much faster than my mechanical hard drive. I find it's more responsive when I'm playing games on this drive than my mechanical drive.
-
0.5ms? i swear i've seen some advertisements for it being a 0.1 ms access time....and it's 120 readspeed.. ur down to 80.. i'm guesing thats becuase you don't have that achi thing on or something like that? or is that how is supposed to be...
i'm gonna get one once ncix has them in stockstll, i expected the results to b fastur.
-
My notebook only supports SATA 1 speeds and I have it in compatibility mode not full SATA mode.

This drive uses Multi Level Cell Technology not the Faster Single Level Cell, that's why it's not as expensive as a SLC drive of the same size.
-
these results are way different than what i got... i tested the slc and mlc versions

I'm itching to get an SSD. I'm really liking that Samsung SATA II Drive, but it's not being sold independantly. And the OCZ re-badge is listed for a little over $1k on Newegg.
-
a supertalent ssd is double the capacity and faster and half the price
-
Ummm no the Supertalent is not faster...or even in the same playing field as the Samsung.
Read - Samsung 100MB/s SuperTalent 80MB/s
Write - Samsung 90MB/s Supertalent 37MB/s
Access Time - Samsung .2ms SuperTalent .5ms
MTBF (Lifespan) Samsung - about 150-200yrs Supertalent 7-10Years
It is larger capacity, cheaper and much less life than the Samsung..
And...having said this. I still think this is a great purchase for the average consumer (which I am). I would trade off a brand new MtronPro 7025 32Gb (valued at 1000plus and still sealed) for a brand new Supertalent 120Gb in a sec. Space can be a killer which is why I enjoy the Samsung 64Gb presently. -
Thanks for the clarification. -

Anyway I'm happy with my purchase of this drive. Now both of my notebooks have Solid state goodness.
