Ok.. any programs that will allow me to moniter the heat my laptop is at?

And its my understanding that certain cooling pads will help keep it cooler and extend the life of the laptop..

so by how much will it extend the life and any recommendations for certain pads in particular? (note.. I prefer to buy them offline)

Everest is normally my recommendation for a temperature monitoring program. It gives you lots of information on the system. Some of it may not be correct, because it is a little out of date. But the vast majority is correct.

A cooling pad, can increase life. I'm taking an absolute guess here, but I think it may increase a notebooks life by a year or maybe 2. I have no idea. Often, the critical components don't get damaged, but they just become outdated, and so people either bin there notebooks, or sell them.

MobileMeter is my favorite program for Windows. It is realtime, and it monitors the battery.

Cooling pads will increase the stability of the CPU and hard disk, making them last longer. The hard disk can always be replaced, but if you haven't made redundant backups of your data, you can lose a lot. You can also extend the life of the CPU by enabling the PowerNow! or SpeedStep by setting the Windows Power scheme to Notebook/laptop.

This is my favorite cooling pad. With the overclock, My CPU never goes above 55 degrees.
