Any indication how long of a lifespan these things have? Do we need to replace every few months like normal paste, or are these long life thermal pads?

    Fantastic.
Guess we find when the deadline is and if we go for 2 each :D
Ill pay you when i know if i pay one or two.

They should last way way longer than paste.
They say they should be better and better and not degrade like paste.

Looking at the photo on the site, they removed the heat-spreader off the cpu and replaced the cheap thermal paste that Intel used on Haswell with heatspring also.

This example video on youtube, a desktop cpu has the heatspreader removed and re-pasted and the results were an 30-40c drop in temperatures, i wonder what temps he would have got with heatsprings.

    Yup I'm in as well.

I've had HS installed on my M18x R1 for over 1 year now and still going strong. Longer in my M17x R2. When I removed the CPU heat sink just because I was curious :p the HS was the same as day 1 when I had installed it.

    Cheers. :)

Actually, I was thinking, do 2 inch squares make a good idea? You can get four 1 inch squares out of a single 2 inch square. $295 for 20 2-inch squares. But then again, the ones unused/trimmed will be sitting free and not packaged, not sure if that matters as far as oxidation or anything.

My biggest concern is that the thermal resistance is lower than most thermal greases when psi > 40 which is questionable if a laptop pressure is much more than that. But I always enjoy testing this kind of stuff. Maybe a mod is in order. :p

What about aarpcard? Technically he was in on the buy before this thread was created. Try PM'ing him to give him a heads-up. If he doesn't respond in time or he opts out the spot can go to whoever was next in line... just trying to be fair.

    edit: £43.00 sent!

I wasn't quite clear what was going on based on the posts. Do we have 10 interested parties, so by taking two I would prevent someone else from getting one? If that's the case, I'll forfeit one of mine, although am interested in having two otherwise.

Ic Diamond testing across a wide variety of laptops have placed laptop heatsink pressure usually between 30 and 70 psi. Heatsprink is very ok at 30 PSI.

Many thanks bro, I'll be getting cash as late as the following tuesday-thursday, but maybe earlier. Let me know your own paypal by pm, then :D

I bough the heatsprings just now. I just have to fill and fax them end user agreement lol.

There is still 1 extra lot to take, for which I paid, and supposed to go to aarpcard who did not confirm the entry.

If nobody wants it i may sell excess on ebay...at a extra premium ! muahaha

If somebody wants to buy the last lot, you are welcome, just let me know by PM, this is the last chance ......

    EDIT:

End User Agreement filled and Faxed. Now we just have to wait.

I would like to thank everybody for signing up and speedy Funds transfer.

    Great Teamwork everybody !

Uhm, didn`t someone from this forum test HeatSpring with his CPU and concluded that:
    A) You need a very strong clamp from the heatsink for it to be effective.
    B) It didn`t properly cool all cores on the CPU

    ?

I think if anybody from 9 users that would sign up would see this we would have been warned. Also, we have 1 user that can confirm the opposite, that it works as intended.

I think it is a matter of pressure being even across the CPU DIE, our alienwares are doing it just fine.

So o think we should be fine.

One of the users that signed up for that debacle was reborn2003 who has been using it in his M18X for over a year now and is in on this group buy. He was the only user that reported some actual results back. As far as I know no-one else gave any feedback, not even HopelessyFaithful who created that thread on multiple forums.

If you could provide a link to the post with the info that you mention, it would be greatly appreciated.

Last thing we want is to spread rumors and make everybody shake it's pants.

The reason I pushed our own thread and group buy is to actually provide feedback about something.

After first hearspring installations everybody from this thread will report the temps to me an i will make a nice chart from it.

It will eighter kill the idea or make everybody to invest in it....

It is not clearly said that we will all succeed, this is pure testing....just because I have loads of money I can't really spend :)

I plan on using it on desktops primarily, but also on a couple laptops. I did read that it requires decent clamp force to be more effective than paste, but we will see. A mod may be in order to increase the pressure, even slightly.

I'll definitely compare before / after with some of the more heat intensive apps/games.

I read somewhere about using paper first, is it pressure paper to check the pressure is even before you use the heatspring, or did i just dream it.

Right in this moment i am exchanging emails with Karen Williams from Indium.

She told me they are already at capacity this week and on the next week they are closed, and they remain closed for shipments until the 2nd of January when they re-open. Which sucks.

So i asked her if she can squeeze us within this week.....lets hope for some good news soon.....

I will update you as soon as she replies.

    :)

Must admit, I am a sceptic, but will be fun to test.

Just seem odd that it glues to one surface but that it still "flows" so good that it removes any airbubbles and make great contact on entire die, over and over again and move heat away better than or as god as top brand extremely thin application of paste just to remove the tiny gaps in uneven surfaces.

It's a solid extremely thin piece of metal so I don't think it "flows". It looks like a piece of foil from the video. The thermal conductivity is so high that I think it negates any air pockets. As reborn said its not as good as the best paste on idle or load but I don't mind if it means I don't have to repaste again... ever :p

Our CPU's in the R2 involves much more work to repaste as we have to remove that magnesium cover to get the CPU heatsink. And wriggling all that cables through those tiny crevices and then forcing them back into place is bound to cause damage to them over time. If this works out well all we have to do to maintain the CPU temps is pull the CPU fan from the back and blow out the dust from the heatsink fins :D

I'm curious if a double layer nets us better results as the pressure would be slightly higher than a single layer.
