is there something i can do, or upgrade or anything to fix this problem?
    i do want to get a 2.4 cpu :)

Yes undervolting with RMclock will help you to reduce the CPU heat as much as 10c.

it will only change how much power the CPU uses, it will not make it a slower processor.

The only thing that will change is the power consumption of your CPU. By reducing the voltage you will reduce at the same time the amonth of heat generated by the CPU.

It will also increase your battery life.

If you feel adventurous you could open your laptop and replace the cheap thermal compound use by Gateway with some Artic Silver 5 (AS5).I tried it myself in few laptops. AS 5 can reduce the CPU heat by up to 10c.

You could also apply it on the GPU top cool it down too.

CPU + undervolting + AS 5 = 10 to 20c decrease in your CPU temperature

You will notice quite a decrease in temps if done the right way....^ :p
And upgrading to a Penryn (T8300 or T8100) is a good idea, as their voltage tolerance is very good, hence they undervolt very well....

Also, check out the cooling guide by D3X,

if you dont want to buy a notebook cooler, simply prop up the back of the system, with a paperback book, erasers, post-its, etc. (Just make sure that what you use to prop it up doesnt block any vents.)
Lifting the back of the system will greatly reduce running temperatures, since air will be able to freely flow underneath the system.
I believe the optimal amount of lift is about 1 inch in the rear.
Plus it makes typing a little easier, cause the keyboard is tilted.

    Tell us how it goes.

I agree that Penryn are cooler but the speed of the T8300 is already the same as his own CPU.... This upgrade is a waste of money.

No CPU upgrade at all, and solve the overheating problem by undervolting, AS5, lifting the laptop up, and what the other members of the NBR have suggested.

BTW isn't your laptop equiped with a dedicated Graphics Card? The nVidia 8800 maybe?

I don't really recommend a CPU upgrade, I said it'll be nice (in terms of UVing and temps, not performance). (Depends if the OP doesn't have a problem upgrading - financially and/or technically)

Check this out --> T8100 undervolted, and this page of the UV Guide.

BTW T8100/T8300s are pretty cheap these days, and if the OP's notebook warranty is over, he can upgrade if he wants to.. :p

Andy I'm using a T2500 right now. All the multipliers between x6 and x10 are at 0.950v. x11 is at 0.9875x and x12 at 1.0375v.

My CPU is old. I mean realy old compared to the P series. So no doubt that the upgrade/downgrade to a T8100 or a T8300 will make his/her CPU cooler, but the difference in temperture want be significant.

The problem here is the fact that in most cases Core Duo and Core 2 Duo have their lowest Vcore locked at 0.950v. So unless Intel decided to unlock their lowest Vcore; no CPU upgrade/downgrade is really worth the money nor the hassle.

This is really anoying as I'm sure, as most who have undervolted their intel processors, that they can go to a 0.8v and even 0.7v when they run at their lowest multiplier.

    Intel...

They capped the lowest voltage after Pentium M's. It would be nice to have a under volted idle.

Theres no way to bypass it AFAIK. Maybe theres a pinmod to unlock the vCore? :radar:

    What are your actual temps?

To you your laptop might seem like its getting unusually hot, but it might just be normal. All laptops get hot.

Assuming the OP is still running stock (I assume since he said he wants a 2.4 ghz cpu he is running stock), how is the speed of a T5750 = T8300

Also the 6864FX does not have the 8800M GTS. Thats the 6831FX/6860FX. The 6864FX has the HD 2600 GDDR3 512 MB

I don't know. I looked for undervolting via pin mod for a while and couldn't find something concrete.

This is the best thing I found but no one tried it.
