I have a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 120GB and wanted a bigger HD. Bought a Western Digital WD5000BEVT. Put the WD in my external case and XP recognize the drive and I could clone my Seagate into the WD. Then put the WD in my Notebook and the Seagate into the external case.

Now the Seagate is recognized by XP, but does not appear in Windows Explorer, Disk management or Acronis Director. It only appears in the device manager as an USB drive. I tried to plug the external case in two USB ports with the Y-cable and it is the same

I can´t get this drive to work in the external case. The WD works in the external case and inside the notebook, but the Seagate only works inside the notebook.

    Any ideas?

I had this very issue, and mine was simply that I didn't have the drive connected fully in the external case. KISS...rarely fails...

Did the drive had any supervisor password required when booting the machine?

    Oh Yeah Baby!!!!!!

Thanks so much t30power. The problem was the HD password. I removed the password and now Windows Explorer is showing my drive.

    Thanks...
