So I was trying to disassemble my notebook to change thermal paste, and lo and behold, one of the screws securing the LCD decided to get a little nasty and got stripped, so now I have a round screw head for a round screwdriver![]()
Right now I'm waiting for the epoxy clay I put in and engraved with a makeshift cross slot to set, but does anyone have another sure-shot, easier method to take this off without prying off and ruining the laptop or anything?

You can drill it out, use a left turning bit and the motion might get it out. One trick I've tried with other screws, but not one as small as yours, is to dremel a new slot onto the screw head and use a bigger screwdriver.

Until I could get my hands on replacement screws I'm afraid to drill the old ones out..also I don't have drills with me and stuff lol

I think the biggest thing to prevent this in the future is to use the correct screwdrivers with good, hard heads on them. That's why mechanics have separate screwdrivers instead of a handle and a bunch of bits. Good luck.

i have had the same with the wireless card in mine and also a mobile phone.
i used a large drill, 10mm or so (the tip has a shallow angle to fit the head), and just rotated it by hand until the head had gone enough to get the part off. if its one screw of many then maybe not a problem.
the right screwdriver is good but you dont know that when you start.
you get the nearest best fit you have and the first few screws come out nice, then, the one little b*&^*&d thats been locktited and seal welded in catches you out
such is life
