Hi all,
Have a bit of a nightmare on my hands... just got a new GX701. I was in the process of swapping out the SSD, when the ribbon connecting the trackpad to the motherboard actually came off; and not just the ribbon, but the entire plastic clip section.
Any idea what on earth I can do? The trackpad doesn’t work at all, and the buttons above it are not working either.
There is a small piece of metal sticking out from the back of the trackpad where it was connected, but there’s nothing on the plastic ribbon connector that it connects to.
Posted it in the owner’s thread as well, but thought it might get more responses in this forum as well.
Please help!

Can you post a photo?
If the latch came out, just insert the cable, put the latch in place, it will kinda hold on and then put a piece of tape over it.
Best solution is replacing that connector its a generic PFC connector with some pin count and pitch, not hard to do by someone used to soldering SMD components, if you dont know, and you are in the US there might be an hackerspace near you that can help you.
EDIT: Going by your name, you are in the UK, but same applies, search for an hackerspace in your city/nearest city. -
Maybe you can turn it where you bought it from if the trackpad was defected.

Ohhh, you ripped the entire connector, it can be soldered back, if none of the pads was ripped, by the photo they all they intact, so its just a matter of applying a bit of flux and drag soldering it back, then a bit of extra solder on the two lateral pads that provide extra mechanical strength, if you RMA the laptop you will be charged a full new top plus fees and work time, so expect around 400-500€ given that its a model still in stores.
