    Hi guys,

I wanted to upgrade my laptop dv6t-1300 CTO with SSD probably Crucial M4 128GB. Does my machine support SATA 3? If it doesn't support, is it worth buying instead SATA 2 SSD's.

Does not support SATA III. Purchase SATA II. A worthy upgrade nonetheless.

Given how cheap SATA 3 SSDs have gotten (Crucial M4, 830 series less than 1 dollar per GB) why not? You can always move that SSD to a newer laptop later on, and there aren't that many non SATA 3 SSDs at that point that are that much cheaper than SATA 3.

Also, just to be clear, SATA3 drives will work with computers that support only SATA2.

Forgot that SATA III drives are backwards compatible.

Backwards compatible, yes. But still limited to SATA2 speeds. Regardless of what SATA standard the notebook uses an SSD is still an awesome upgrade.

I used the Crucial M4 128GB in my own DV6t-1300. Windows boots in about 20 seconds (due to SATA II limitations). Programs are nice and snappy, photoshop opens in seconds, which was really nice.

I upgraded to the 256GB version and am anxiously awaiting a P150EM that can actually utilize SATA III and get the M4's full performance.

Thanks guys. I currently live in Bangkok and couldn't find the crucial M4. Only OCZ, Intel and Crosair. Intel are relatively expensive than other. But I bought Intel 520 series 120 GB as I saw many bad reviews about OCZ drives.
