My Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop keeps typing the slashes you see in my title. It is extremely annoying! I am not even touching the slash key when it happens. In fact, that key does not even work! I'm guessing this is a keyboard issue and I should just go ahead and get a replacement, but does anyone know of any other reason this could be happening? Every other key is working fine, but I can't even type a paper, much less an e-mail without the slashes typing. Long before it happened water was spilled and went near a couple of the keys, but I dried it out and it worked fine for at least a month. Help!!!

Try reseating the keyboard connection, it may help. :)

The easiest way to determine if it is a hardware problem instead of a software problem, is to plug in an external keyboard. I would bet it is from the water spill and now something is corroding.

    Could be it needs cleaning.

I'd recommend using methylated spirits and cutips, though others would disagree about the metho.Take off the \ key and mash the rubber pad a bit (as in button mash, not mashed potato lol), then blow under it or shoot some compressed air underneath.

If that doesn't work, I'd suggest removing the keyboard and cleaning underneath the keypad with metho.

Uhh, seriously? Two consecutive ones with the same problems like these are quite....blowing. Haha. Anyway.

If it's really a hardware problem, perhaps the keyboard does need to be reseated. I think I had the same problem before except that it was with an external keyboard. I don't know any virus anyway that would do that sort of attack/nuisance, since the most obvious virus-related keyboard juju [sorry, can't find a word lol] are keylogger viruses.

Ah, your water spilling case seems to be exactly the same with my desktop keyboard and cell. Soon after they got spilled some keys stopped working, then after a while they magically got working again but finally stop working at all (forever).
