    Hi!

    I'm having a Dell Vostro 1400 Laptop

Want to replace the HD that came with it but couldn't work out how to go about it. I searched Google but there's not much information available about the model that I'm using.

Following is the assembly after I unscrew the HD covering plate on the back of the Laptop. Don't know how to proceed further, please help !!

Get the Service Manual (may be called removal and replacement of parts) off the Dell support site for detailed guidance.

But, looking at the photo, I would lift the tab on the left side of the HDD cradle, pull upwards a little and, at the same time, slide the HDD to the left.

Yes I am pretty sure you have to pull the tab on the left UP.
I don't think you need to take the entire laptop apart to get to the HDD...

Thanks guys, but the hard disk won't slide a iota to the right.. also as the connectors are on left side, I didn't try to pull the hard disk forcefully using the flap on the left side.

I have 1 320 GB hard disk lying idle with me and I'm unable to use it.....help me guys

Pull the hard disk forcefully using the flap on the left side. There's an interposer between the actual disk and the laptop connector that's designed to slide upwards. No need to slide it to the right.

    you need to pull up.
Grab a small flat head screwdriver.
You need to stick the screwdriver underneath the small harddrive prongs I have arrows next to.
    Pry the drive up.
    The drive comes directly out.

    I am glad it worked.
Ive done this procedure before on a vostro, and you really have to use a screwdriver, you feel like your going to rip the tab off, its so tight

Let us know if you need any other help
