    Hi.

My niece has a Dell notebook with CD-RW/DVD-ROM , and she wants to burn dvd`s , can she buy a replacement DVD-RW.

She has removed the drive, she says she pressed a button and the drive popped out, and the interface on the back is very thin and long, it seems non-standard to me, is it a caddy with an normal drive inside, the part number is "p/n 8w007-a01"

    Thanks

    John.

Easiest way to find the ODD you have is going to support.dell.com and entering your Service Tag and going to system configuration, finding the ODD in the list and get the corresponding Dell P/N and eBay it. I believe pre-Inspiron 1525 are all PATA, you just need to remove the front bezel. After 1525 should all by SATA.

Ya, this. I would still buy a drive specifically for your model, although the only danger of buying a generic PATA/SATA ODD would be that the silly bezel from the first drive might not fit (assuming you want to use the Dell bezel). A generic drive should *work* though.
