I need help. I have been wondering why my computer is running so slow. I downloaded CPUz and noticed that my clock speeds always stay at 800mhz. This is weird because as I understand it it should speed up to 2.2GHz under load. I dunno why its locked and can't figure out what is wrong. I recently did a format but I have put the chipset driver from the dell website on.

    My specs are
    T7500 CPU 2.2GHZ
    3GB RAM
    8400m gs
    Windows 7 32 bit.

I have also attached the screen from CPUZ

I would really appreciate any help anyone could give me

    cheers

Download a temperature monitoring program like HWMonitor and tell us what the temps are. Also make sure that your power plan is set to allow the CPU to run at its max frequency. If you are in battery, check if it clocks properly when plugged in.

The one core is 45 celsius and the other 50 celsius, they never even get hot anymore because the clock is so slow. I am permanently running it on ac power from the wall (the battery is removed since it works for like 10seconds on a full charge, and its on balanced but i checked that it can clock to 100% and also tried the performance plan. Neither made a difference. I also checked in the bios and speedstep is enabled and there are no settings enabled that would slow the system down. In fact they are just the default settings since I have not even changed anything.

I am getting so frustrated, someone mentioned something about the computer not recognizing the power adapter and in the bios it says it cant recognise it. Not sure if it is important.

Maybe the AC adaptor is not making a good connection into your laptop. Chips need power to run at high MHz, so this can certainly be the culprit.

If the AC Adaptor connector to the laptop is loose, that will be a problem. Try wiggle the connector to the back of the laptop and see if it helps the BIOS recognize it. I definitely think this is the issue.

    Also, in Windows:
Check your Power Options in Control Panel, you can manage performance mode there based on whether it's plugged in or batter powered. Try setting to High Performance.

You may need a new power adapter, or even worse... the motherboard circuit is wearing out.

ok this has to be one of the weirdest fixes ive ever done. I tried everything and it was just stuck. I ended up getting really frustrated and just pulled the power cord out of the laptop, and since it doesnt have a battery of course it just turned off. When I rebooted voila my adapter is now recognised and the cpu runs at full speed. I turned it off and restarted and its still fine. A bit dodgy but i only need it for my exams for the next few weeks so meh at least it works now. Cheers for the help tijo and player2099 :)

Sounds like all you needed was to reset the EC, a setting probably got stuck and all you needed was to remove all power sources, let it sit for a bit and power back on. Happens sometimes.

Out of curiosity, are you using the original power adapter that came with it?

The spring on the power connector may not be as strong any more. You may need to open the computer and give it a slight bend so it makes a better connection. Be careful you don't break it when bending it.

Would you be able to give me a quick run through on how to do it or if you have a link to somewhere I would appreciate it. Cheers

Yea it is still the original adapter that came with it. I stopped using the battery since it weighs about the same as the laptop but only last about 30seconds on a full charge.

I don't have instructions on how to bend the connector. It might be best to leave it alone. As Tijo said, maybe when you unplugged it you reset it. Just keep an eye on it.
