    Hi,

I need some help, my external monitor (Philips 220WS) is running at 1680x1050 for optimal resolution, but my notebook is runnning on 1280x800.

So when i turn both on at the same time, the display at the external monitor is not running at 1680x1050 but 1280x800 which is distorted.

Is there anyway to make the notebk run at 1680x1050? or how to make both resolution run at their optimal?

    Thks in advance

Go to display settings, click the box with 2 on it and check 'Extend the desktop onto this monitor'. You can then change the resolution of monitors 1 and 2 separately.

If you want both monitors to display the same things, then the resolution has to be the same.

You cannot make the resolution of the built in screen go from 1280x800 to 1680x1050. You can only do this if you bought a laptop screen which can go to 1680x1050, but you have it set to run at 1280x800.
Most likely that is not the case, so you are stuck with 1280 x 800 on your laptop. But you can do what namaiki mentioned, and you can use your external screen as another screen connected with your internal screen.
