I have a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6147 with a 1.60 GHz, 1MB L2, 533MHz FSB Intel Pentium dual-core processor T2060 with a Mobile Intel 943GML Express Chipset. I would like a faster processor that is still dual-core. What are my options, if any? I have a very knowledgable friend that can/will install whatever I buy him to install. But, what do I need to get to make this a faster machine?

I have a 7200 RPM HDD and 4GB RAM. What do I need to buy/do to get faster as I am running AutoCad applications.

Without even researching. You have the budget level chipset of the 945 series. You have an Intel Core Duo. It is not a 64bit chipset. Even though you have 4GB RAM not recognized.

You have a socket M CPU. You can upgrade to a T7300 at best. It is not worth upgrading CPU. Buy new.

    Sorry.

A t7300 on eBay is only $45. It might be worth it. Depending on how long you have to keep this laptop.

    Don't buy T7300, it's a Socket P CPU, get a socket M cpu, something like T7200,T7400 or as mentioned in a previous post T7600.

It costs $75 for a t7200(2GHz) on eBay. The t7400 is almost twice as much at $120.

it has only got 2mb cache compared to 4 on every other t7x00. Still a very capable CPU, especially when compared to t2060

    Filter Summary
T7200 has 4MB L2 cache. But only problem is it'll run a little bit hotter because of 34W TDP.

Yes,I agree but the fan noise became too much of an annoyance and I switched back to a T2600. My idle temps are 34C,35C and fan has gone very quiet compared to 52C with T7200.

My brother had an Acer Aspire 5315, with the Pentium dual core 1.6GHz. It idled in the high 30Cs. I gave him a t7300 for it, and now it idles at around 42C.
