Wow, that is ridiculously hot. You were not joking.
I would download a copy of rivatuner just to be sure that the thermal readout is right. I would trust the thermal readout from riva tuner over nvmonitor.

Also, it says that your chipset is running 107C.
    That is really hot.

Can you download and run "core temp". Run the program and tell us what kind of temps you are getting.

Your girls laptop should not be getting that hot. Something is wrong.

You might want to download I8kfanGUI and set your fan settings.

It's meant for older Dells, but it might work for you too.

I8KFANGUI, only works on Dell laptops.
That is strange that riva tuner cannot read the temperature, are you sure that you checked off for riva tuner to read the thermal probe?
You have to go to the graph and click settings.
Then just check off what you want riva tuner to monitor.

Does your friend have the nvidia go 6150 driver installed. Riva Tuner does not seem to be able to pick up any of the graphics information, because it is only being picked up by rivatuners built in scanner. without a driver, it cannot monitor anything.
The core temp values are good.
Is the bottom of the laptop extremely hot?
If it is not, than the nvmonitor is not giving a reliable thermal reading.

Why are you using the 174.70 drivers, they do not support your graphics card.

The 174.70 drivers support the nvidia 6150 desktop chipset, not the mobile one.
The mobile chipsets are distinguished by the term "go"
The go 6100 is supported, the go 6150 is not.

You must download a driver which specifically works with vista and your go 6150.
