Ok , Ive mucked my x1400 completly.... artifacts well in excsess of 200 on ati tray tools even at low clocks... Yes... bad

So i want to claim on the insurance , how would i go about doing this .... will they take this laptop away and try and repair it ,or just give me a new one ...
I wanna get a new laptop anyway so claiming on insurance isnt all that bad , and seeing as this graphics card problems arose...
Are there any consiquences on claiming insurance...
do i still get to keep this other laptop???
will they give me the exact same laptop or will they give on to the same specifications...???
    Thanks

What exactly would you claim, and would the claim be true? What sort of insurance do you have, Lite? And what have you "mucked" on what kind of machine?

You asked about consequences - untrue insurance claims can lead to some severe penalties. In another thread just a short while ago, a suggestion of fraud was made and I wondered if that might be what you meant here. Obviously not, so I doubt there'd be consequences other than being without your machine temporarily if a repair were done.

You still haven't mentioned the laptop brand - some companies are more apt to replace a machine than are others - but I'd guess with just a bad card, repair is most probable.

Its a dell... And my claim is genuine , but it boots xp perfectly fine... but it wont play games..... ect , and thats what i use it for... somtimes i get a blue screen of death.
there is no point in making a claim if they are just gonna replace the card , as i could do it myself for £50 and to make a claim it costs £100......

I wanna get a new laptop and not just have them replace the card... does that sound really bad???

Ok truthfully :( heres why , dell ships these systems with a lower 64 bit oem version of the x1400(comapred to 128 bit normally) , and i wanna get a faster card really , my claim is genuine and its totally destroyed basically but i still dont really wanna end up with the same card in the end :(

Thanks for your help anyway... ill just run games on my desktop from now on i guess :(

Maybe you can make the claim but offer to pay the difference between the cost of the bad card and the price of the one you want? Don't know what Dell's card options are, though.

excelent idea... Ill have a look on the dell site quickly.

edit: turns out dell dont even sell the x1400 cards.... nor does anywhere exsept ebay... and they are all 2nd hand... dell dont sell any cards but the ones they use for repairs...
