    I have an HP dv9500t laptop and when I plug in my desktop speakers into the headphone jack there is a little static no matter the volume of the laptop. The only way to stop the little static is to mute the speakers from the speakers and not the laptop. I have tried this from different speakers and I still get the same annoyin sound.

    The sound is irritating but does not intefer with regular computer operations. I just have a few questions:

    Is there any way to get rid of that static sound?

    Would a soundcard get rid of the sound?

    Would a soundcard noticably improve my music's sound even though I do not have high end speakers (JBL Creature II's)?

    What soundcard would you recommend on getting?

    Thank you in advance!!!

    BTW: The main audio thing I do on my laptop is listen to music and I am not an audiophile.

    You can get an external sound card USB/PCMCIA/Express Card. If your handy you can open up notebook and look around jack for anything amiss, sometimes even just messing around in there can solve the problem by disturbing what might be touching if that is what it is. Has it always done this or is it new?

    Thanks for the help.

    I can not remember a time without it. I am not handy with computers in the sense of opening the case. I think that would void the warranty which is something I do NOT want to do.

    I do have an express card slot. Would buying a sound card fix the problem and would it noticably improve music quality on an avg pair of speakers?

    If under warranty why not have fixed? And I don't think opening in and of itself voids warranty. If you go in and damage yea that is not covered. But I would never encourage someone not comfortable going in. There is a chance it is the jack/wires and not on the board as internal speakers do not have static. i think thier are USB speakers which might work for you.

    I do not want to have it fixed because I do not want to send it in to fix a little annoying sound and be without my computer for however long. I need it for school etc.

    Ya the speakers that are on the laptop have no static.

    Because I do not really want to buy a new pair of USB speakers, would an external soundcard fix the problem and improve sound quality noticably? If so, any cards that you recommend that are not too expensive.

    @Masterbasssist
    Let me know how that goes and if the sound is a lot better.

    Thanks for all the help.
