I recently got an Envy 15 with the 500GB drive in the hopes of putting in a set of dual C300s (The new 256GB 1.8" ones which came out last month, which run $600 each). My work desktop has a large RAID array on dedicated express cards, so I was hoping to get some of that performance back.
If you buy the Envy 15 you can get dual Intel X18 SSDs which come already in RAID and you can enter the RAID screen by pressing Clrt+I on startup. If you did not get the dual SSDs like I did you cannot enter the RAID screen from the BIOS and an HP rep confirmed my computer does not support RAID based on the serial number, however my 500GB computer has an "Intel(R) ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E/5 Series/6 Series SATA RAID Controller" installed according to the system info, which from the name leads me beleive that it has RAID support at the hardware level.
I was planning on just returning the computer I have and getting an Envy 15 with the dual SSDs after I couldn't get the C300s I had bought RAIDed, but this would cost me about $350 more after I sell the X18s at market value.
Is there anything I can do to get my dual C300s hooked up to my current computer which cannot access the RAID controller from the BIOS screen, or do I really have to waste $350 more?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, flashing a new bios, but this there is only one BIOS HP has for download:
WinFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS - Microsoft Windows-Based HP Envy 15t-1100se CTO Beats Limited Edition Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) -
I have the IntelĀ® ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller (Intel 82801IEM (ICH9M-E) 4 port SATA I/O Controller 1 in my HP 8530w and I can only enter "CTRL+I" when i enable the RAID option in BIOS. The BIOS must support RAID. There must be a special ROM in the BIOS.
You can check the presence of this ROM.
Download from intel drivers pour Raid/Sata/Ata/Ahci the newest IRST driver 1046(full package).
There is a "RAID option ROM and utilities for PCH desktop" folder that contains a DOS program RAIDCPLY.exe.
Read the correponding Readme. You must boot DOS to use this program! Good luck.
