I plan on getting a clevo P775DM3 with: 1440 120hz panel, 1070 gpu, i7 6700 quad core, 16 gb 2400hz ram, 1 TD sata hd. I want to install a ssd, which ive never done on a lap top. I will also buy my own copy of windows 10 since the vendor doesnt include a copy with the purchase of the laptop. With that being said what ssd would you recommend? Suppose ill need to get a external drive to be able to install windows also. What are you recommendations?

If you can find one, a Samsung SM961 NVMe. Or if you can wait a few weeks the Samsung 960 Pro, once it is released. If $$$ is an issue, then you can look,at the Samsung Evo line of drives.

In regards to install, if you can get access to a machine with a DVD Drive and a USB, look at transferring your OS install drive to an 8GB or 16GB bootable usb drive and try installing on the new machine from there.

Stick with Name Brand SSD at least 500gig drives, the 1tb are not to bad in prices right now but stay away from 2tb or higher those are outrages in prices. Formatting and installin SSD are the same process as HDD some SSD have a space to make it fit into the Caddy drives and some just pop in so check the SSD specs and you latpop HDD drive space specs to match one that will fit and work. No one here can recommend a universal SSD as each person and their SSD experiences varies from drivers to O/S installs.

for 2.5" suggest the 960GB Sandisk Extreme Pro or 1TB Samsung 850 SSD...

For M.2, the 960 Pro or SM961 is your best choice OP..
