    Hi all,

I recently stumbled on people warning from using alcohol to clean lcd screens (especially ones with anti glare coating), and in my case i have an IPS antiglare monitor (Alienware 17 2016 model) that i once or twice have dampened a piece of cotton with 2~3 sprays of 70% ethyl alcohol and cleaned the screen with.

Could that have damaged my screen in any way?? What's the best method to clean an IPS antiglare lcd?

I use a damp (not wet) cloth with a very small amount of washing up liquid on part of the cloth. Use that part for the initial clean and the another part of the cloth for the final clean. After I have cleaned the screen then I clean the other parts of the computer with the same cloth.

If you want to buy an screen cleaner spray, I have been using "Fellowes 125ml Screen Cleaning Spray" for 15 years (it evaporates really quick and leaves no marks, I use it on my 20" IPS display), I ran out last month so i bought 5 packs so i don't run out again.

See link below, maybe you can buy it in your area of the world, there are lots of really poor and damaging screen cleaners so it`s best to stick to a cleaner you know works well.

A LCD display has multiple polymer layers, some of which may be soluble in ethanol or IPA, that is why people advocate screen cleaners meant for LCDs, so that you know that they don't contain solvents that could be potentially harmful. To be honest, 70% ethanol is a pretty mild solvent, screen cleaners meant for glass covered displays are a no no though, those could be very harmful. Lens cleaners are also usually ok, but you can look at the ingredients and stay away from anything that contains acetone, methylene chloride (dichloromethane) and so on.

Just look for those specifying just for LCD screens. LCD and Glass aren't the same thing so cleaners for Glass shouldn't be used for LCD.

Monster also makes a LCD cleaner that I have used with good results.
