hello guys,
Now the Centrino 2 Processors are coming.
My question is that if i buy one of these processors and then put it in my
Dell M1530(which had 965chipset) will it work??
and will there be any advantages like switiching which graphics card to use?
Am really confused. If any mistakes in my question pls do not flame me.
Thanks alot. Kunal

Centrino 2 is a platform not a processor.

Yes, Centrino 2 is not exactly a processor, rather a brand name intel gives to a set of critical components of a notebook. This includes a second generation Intel core 2 mobile processor with a faster FSB up to 1066MHz (code named Penryn), an Intel Mobile 4 Express series chipset supporting up to DDR3 RAM and a Wireless N wireless adapter.
M1530 can be configured with a Penryn processor, but the FSB is limited to 800MHz and RAM is limited to DDR2. It is not a true Centrino 2 class notebook. In any case don’t buy a notebook hoping for future upgrades. Graphics card of M1530 is NOT upgradable (the chip is soldered on to the motherboard), and most other notebooks don't support upgradable graphics adapters either, even though they might have discrete removable graphics adapters. Cost, hassle and the warranty issues involved with a CPU upgrade is usually not worth the performance increase either.
Therefore, if you want the latest and the greatest, then buy a different notebook. -
thanks got it now!

Even if you could, it wouldn't be that big of a difference anyhow. Supposedly the new chips use a slightly different socket, Socket P' but I haven't heard much more about it.

They say montevina CPU's will fit but the multiplier will stay the same as if it were a 1066mhz FSB but actually only be a 800mhz FSB (do to your chipset) making for a much slower clock than what it would be on an actual centrino 2 laptop and as advertised. your much better off getting one of the older CPU's with an 800mhz FSB if you wanna upgrade. the t9300 seems quite popular or x7800, x7900, or x9000 if you wanna go extreme. They say the x7800 is best bang for buck but all extreme processors run fairly hot...

You dont need ddr3 memory for centrino 2

The M1530 won't even boot with the new Penryn processors installed. The best CPU for it is the T9500.
Help clear confusion about Centrino 2?!
