I have a 13 inch HP Dv3t with bluray drive and HDMI output.
I have an optoma HD72 (720p) projector w/ 100inch screen.
Problem.
My A/V receiver does not have an HDMI input.![]()
So I need to connect my laptop to this receiver and get HD video output and (fingers crossed) 5.1 surround sound....
I am willing to purchase converters, cables, etc.. but im not buying a new receiver yet.

if the media is protected via HDCP (i.e., films on Blu-ray disc) you cannot send the data stream through an HDMI-to-component converter. there are grey-market devices that strip HDCP from input streams. i won't describe where to find these because i don't endorse piracy. -
anyone got any ideas? im hoping to get this all setup by tuesday-wednesday

What about running my HDMI straight to the projector and then using this external sound card to hook up to the receiver? Does this sound card actually give me true 5.1??
