    Hey , my friend has the exact same laptop as me except he has 1gb of ram.
    He wants to upgrade to 2gb ddr2 667.

    I would chose the cheapest Transcend/Adata/kingston PC5300 ram. I would avoid the generic ram. Brand of ram is to the most part, a personal preference.

    so how come some of the ram costs like $50 more then other... it it just the brand im paying for or will there be a significant difference between the cheapest 1gb pc5300 kingston and some $50 more expensive 1gb pc5300 corsair ram

    Well if the specification are both the same then yes you are paying for brand. Same thing applies to Dell ram. Why pay for overpriced dell ram when you can go to any store and get "same" ram for cheaper.

    Also does your friend have 2 sticks on 512 ram or 1 stick of 1gb ram in his lappy?

    Rams are rams. Just buy the cheapest one from a known manufacture. I just bought a 1gb stick of Kingston valueram for $20 AR :D
