I decided to make a small upgrade of my old Sony TX51B/B. My HDD has it's years, so it would be probably safer to buy new one. Firstly I was hoping for 5400 rpm one but after a bit of searching I found out they are just SATA. This one looks nice, but it seems it has just ZIF connector and I doubt it would fit in this small notebook with adapter.
So does anybody knows some which would meet my specifications?

btw...The one which is in the nb originally is this one...

I think you are best off getting a M-TRON Mobi 3000 1.8" drive. Its a 32GB ssd, which is much better than any mechanical 1.8" drive.
I believe the fastest 1.8" mechanical harddrives are around 25-30mb/sec, and they have over 25 ms seek times
The ssd will be more expensive than a mechanical drive but it will surely breathe new life into your laptop.

It is only your travel laptop do you need that much space on the HD really?

I linked and edited this into the thread i started about my upgrade i don't know if you saw it or not.
This i think would be your best bet.

The 1.8 higher capacity drives are very expensive in some cases they are even more expensive than SSD drives.

I would go for a direct fit if i were you rather than getting a adapter.

I hope that your upgrading goes ok for you.

Thanks, but it's not my travel computer...it was, but now it became portable home computer mainly for my wife and you know how girls are....she wouldn't appreciate booting in 30 seconds if she can't save pictures and videos of our son in it. And as it's used on various places external HDD is not a solution. That's why I'm searching for (mainly) new and prefelably also bigger HDD. But I can't find any which would meet my specs...

This one looks very nice and the price is acceptable, but my TX doesn't have ZIF connector and I have bad feeling it wouldn't fit with adapter in such a small laptop (didn't try though)...

A forum member put that 120GB drive into their TXN so it will fit without an adapter for sure. I asked them for follow-up to this post. Both drives are also 8mm.

Sony put some absorbers around the drive you can remove that.

You can also put the adapter in like so. I found that picture below on another board.

The chances of it working are really very high but i cannot like say it will definitely work.

    :)

Metsn your connector is a bit different from that. It angles from one corner in the middle of the bay and then up to the HD/DVD connector.
It should be even easier for you.
Your connector looks like this and rests flat on the base so you don't have to do any tucking under at the base of the drive.

You would just tuck it under at the top end.
If you go through it update and let us know how you got on with it.
