Hi everybody,
I'm having a problem fitting my new hard drive - I'm pretty new to this, so please forgive me if this is a basic problem!
Basically, I own a Hewlett Packard Pavilion ZV5000 laptop. I wanted to upgrade my paltry 40Gb drive to a 160Gb one. I used www.drivemylaptop.co.uk to identify which hard drives were compatible - see this LINK
So, I chose the 'Western Digital WD1600BEVE 2.5", 160GB, 5400RPM, 8MB Cache' drive.
When it came to installing the new drive, I took out the old one and noticed that the pins, or connectors, or IDE connectors (still new to this) were completely different. However, it seemed to slot in nonetheless so I booted up my laptop and surprise surprise, it didn't even recognise the drive - you can see it is not connecting at all.
I did a little bit of googling around the subject, and read some talk about IDE adaptors - now, it looks like there is some kind of unit in the hard drive bay, that the old drive slots into easily (take a look at this - my old drive is a Seagate, and the images of it look like they have different connectors) Is this an adaptor? What IS an adaptor? And, also, how the hell do I remove it, or get a new one, to fit the new drive - the screws or whatever they are look totally unaccessible!
Please help me, I'm pretty fed up with the whole situation to be honest!
Thanks very much,
Ruckwood
