I have a (Sager) Clevo Santa Rose M570RU w/ PM965 chipset. My current processor is an Intel core 2 duo T6400 2.0 gig w/ 4096mb DDR2 667 and a nVidia GeForce 9800m GTS 1gig. I'd really like to upgrade the processor but i've never done hardware upgrades before and i'm having trouble finding compatible products.

What exactly should i be looking for? the Chipset, Socket #, ? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

From the specs it accepts up to a T9500 (which is Socket P). Before proceeding, be sure to install the latest BIOS update.

Below is a list of the cpus that generally shipped with that notebook:

Thanks for the info. Is the T9500 worth the cost and trouble to upgrade? It doesn't seem like that big of a jump in performance, compared to say a new machine with an i7.

It appears to score almost identically to an i7 620LM @ 2GHz in Passmark, so that is not too shabby considering the architecture difference.

So I found a T9500 for $199 on Ebay. I think I want to do this. Any tips on how to swap out my processor? Do i just need an anti-static wrist band and some thermal grease, and everything else just drops in or is it more involved?

If you play games it will help. Your T6400 is holding back your video card. http://forum.notebookreview.com/gateway-emachines/504306-t5550-vs-x9000-game-benchmarks.html You can also look into the X9000 CPU but it is pricey. At 3.6 GHz my cpu beats the i7 720qm and is right behind the i7 840qm in some benchmarks.

get an X9000 instead.. it will be much better and ocing it , it will be an excellent system... although the X9000 is pricey, look a little and u should get one cheap.

Unless you plan on overclocking, the extreme cpu may not be worth the expense (unless you can find it cheap). The lowest I've seen is $325.......

but still , an X9000 at 3.6Ghz using throttlestop + 9800M GTS would extend the laptop's life by a half a year or more easily.
