There is 2 laptop under the same brand, same screen size, same size of rams (2G ram) and hard drive size, the only different is the CPU and GPU, they both cost the same money, so which one is better?
laptop 1: Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.20 GHz, 4MB L2, 800 MHz FSB) with 256 MB nVidia GeForce Go 8600M GT
laptop 2: Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 (2.10 GHz, 3MB L2, 800 MHz FSB) with 256 MB nVidia GeForce Go 8400M GS)
they both cost the same money, but the seller said the laptop 2 is better since the CPU T8100 is better, but... for spec, isnt 2.2 GHz better than 2.1, also the T7500 has 4MB L2 compare to 3MB of T8100? I checked the intel web site, T8100 is 45nm processor while T7500 is 65nm, so even T8100 is slow, it still make it better CPU then the T7500 with faster speed? also question 2, i also check the nVidia site, 8600M is more expensive and focus on multimedia and gaming chip while 8400 is only for the afforable pricing, will they make it a different? i mean while im playing game like crysis or world of warcraft.
These 2 computer is Dell refurbished laptop, laptop 1 is Inspiron 1720 with 17" screen, second laptop is Vostro 1700 also 17" screen. I already bought the vostro for $600, is it a good price for it?

Which Laptops are they ?
I would go for Laptop 1. CPU is fine. It is fast, and good. Good enough for almost all high-end games. Plus the 8600M GT is alot better than the 8400M GS. Now the performance of the 8600M GT would depend upon if it has DDR2 or GDDR3 memory chips. (Which laptop ?)
Normally, upgrading a GPU is tough, mainly due to the availability of an upgrade, soldered/socketed, TDP etc.
CPUs can be easily upgraded. CPUs are normally cheap on ebay and also available as Retail. You could probably upgrade to a T9300/T9500 if considering to play Crysis. (The 8600M GT will still be the bottleneck for high-end gaming, whereas the 8400M GS is rubbish)
Since you've already bought the Vostro 1700, there is a 8600M GT 256MB upgrade available from Dell, but it is not really worth it, considering the high cost, and the history of faulty Dell 8M GPUs. Stick to the config you have.

Definitely the Laptop 1.....higher clock speed....bigger L2 cache size.....and much better graphic card
-
yup, pc 1 is the better choice...
-
Definitely go for teh first one,
The T7500 will trump that T8100 in any test.
The T8100 may run a bit cooler, but the 8400GS kills the deal.
The 8600mGT is a much better graphics card, and will suit you better.

if i said laptop 1 also, you might regret that you bought laptop 2 already.
but anyway, you posted ur thread here so i hope you don't gripe too much.
but crysis on 8400m GS? shew.....good luck on getting even on the lowest settings.
but im sure there are other games you can play other than the performance and graphics hungry crysis. -
As everyone else has said, Laptop #1.
It is a much better Graphics card and the CPU has more Cashe. The.10 more clock speed is really unnoticable though. -
LAPTOP no. 1 no doubt...get it...

Yep another vote for 1.
Help please, which one is better?
