    Hi peops,

I received great help in this forum a couple of months ago when I asked questions about replacing the hard disk on my notebook. (Click here for that thread.) Thanks to everyone who replied! I found a suitable hard disk and replaced my old one. Unfortunately, my problems didn't end there. While attempting to install Microsoft Windows on the hard disk, I found out that my CD/DVD drive had failed too. I haven't found a USB boot option in my notebook's BIOS, so I'm left to replace the CD/DVD drive. I haven't come across much online help on how to replace a notebook's CD/DVD drive, but I came across the following drive in Newegg that appears similar to my notebook's: here. I intend to buy it but I'm not sure if it'll be recognized by my notebook. I mean, will the new drive work if I simply replace the old drive with it?

My notebook is a Sony PCG-FRV37. Here's some info about its CD/DVD drive:

    Make: Mat****a
    Model: UJ-810B
    Speeds: DVD-R write 1x, DVD-RW write 1x, CD-R write 16x, CD-RW write 8x, CD-ROM read 24x, DVD-ROM read 8x

Thanks in advance for your help!

My hard disk and CD/DVD drive both have failed. I bought a new hard disk but the problem now is getting Windows onto it because my CD/DVD drive is not working. What I would like to know is if the CD/DVD I intend to buy ( here) would work if I just remove the old one and pop it in.

That cd drive will work in your system.
That is very strange that your harddrive and optical drive died simultaneously. Have you tried cleaning the lens on the laser with a ab of rubbing alcohol on a q-tip?
If the lens is dirty, it will not be able to read anything, so give cleaning the lens a shot before buying another optical drive.
