    Hi,

I have a Advent 7105 Laptop(ECS 331 Series)and the CPU speed keeps on changing in the XP System Properties, original speed is 1.81ghz then changes to 1.59ghz then 1.61ghz then will not display the XP start button options (just flashes when clicked) so I thought I'd flash the bios to see if it helps. But I cant find the ROM file on the ECS website just the flash utility.

Here's the site: ECS Web Site

    Maybe you guys could help?

It's all there. You get a zip archive which contains the flash tool and the bios file.

Be aware that the bios update needs to be done in a plain DOS environment, loaded from a boot floppy, USB drive or CD.

unzipped it! I see a BAT file (MS-DOS file) the AFDOS.EXE (flash utility) and a bhm file..not ROM file. Could you please explain what I do please? Also I dont have floppy drive for a bootable disk but I do have Windows ME disk to boot into DOS.

    Thanks!

Yes, they call their Bios files something.bhm. Not really an issue since the commands are hopefully properly compiled in the .bat file.
    Should be something like flash.exe biosfile.bhm /options /list

As for instructions, look here: How to use flash utility (I haven't had a deeper look at the documents there)

I personally would prepare a bootable USB stick with some DOS on it. Might be some work for preperation, but less trouble with application.
--> prepare dos on usb - Google Search
