Hey guys, I just received my Lenovo T61p and I am upgrading the RAM to 4gigs myself. I just installed the memory and the system settings says I have 4GB of RAM installed. I go to task manager and it says I only have 3069MB of total physical memory. Shouldn't it say 4000MB of total physical memory? Thanks for the help!

would this be because I only have 32 bit windows vista home premium? Will it only recognize 3GB? I thought SP1 fixed that whole problem.

yes, and no sp1 does not fix that problem. SP1 allows vista to know that there is 4gb of ram , but it still cannot address it all because of 'memory remapping, vid. card address space etc..'. For this reason only around 3gb will still be displayed in the task manager of a 4gb system. Seriously just go 64bit.

Ah alright, well how do I get the 64bit version? Is the only way to contact Microsoft and have them send me the disc?

People. Please, explain how exactly I can upgrade my memory. I've ordered 2gb of ram more(Lenovo t61p). But I don't know in what way exactly I have to put on it. Do I have to open the bottom and insert it there or I need to open the top? Do you have some screenshots? please help.

lacislav, it is very easy. The memory is located right below the touchpad. Flip the laptop over, and remove the 4 long screws which connect the palmrest to the bottom of the laptop.
Than insert the memory and put the screws bac together.

I have a T61, so hopefully the memory is in the same space.

And before you pull off the palm rest, be aware that there is a ribbon cable attached to it and you must detach it first.
