I posted this question in the Hp/compaq forum but I did not get a clear answer, and Iam a little confused.I would like to know is it possable to change
my cpu in a Compaq R4010us it has a Sempron 3200+ winchester core socket 939 .090nm the motherboard is the Hp model 3085 bios F.08.I would like to replace it with a anthlon 64 but I am not sure of what type of cpu mobile or desktop. I also read that the sempron machines only have one fan for cooling and the anthlon 64 has two fans. Can anyone steer me in the right direction.
Thanks R4840

You'll get more of a performance boost from upgrading to a faster hard drive than the CPU. Probably won't void your warranty as well.

It's more for the compadabilty with the future os

If you are thinking of Vista, I don't see why it won't run on your current set-up. On the day it is released, the majoirity of PC will still be 32 bit. They are not going release an OS the majoirty of PC users cannot upgrade.
