Hello guys. I've been facing a problem with my GPU, and i don't quite know how to describe it in a search, so i was hoping you could help me.

I own an Asus F3SC, with nvidia geforce 8400M G. Recently, when i was updating my gpu drivers, when the system suddenly crashed with strange bugs (like, glitches on graphics, and serveral green vertical stripes). I got the windows' blue screen saying that it had entered an infinite loop on nv4_disp.dll. After restarting, running on VGA and uninstalling my driver, it worked fine again (I'm running on VGA now). I tried, then, different fixes for this nv4_disp issue, but all returned with no success. After formating and reinstalling windows, wishing that it could be just an OS bug, the problem persisted. It seems that everytime i install any driver for my GPU, it goes nuts and crashes my system, and looking now at the Device Manager, it doesn't show my video card, but only the Standard VGA adapter.

    What could the problem be?
    Thanks!

Oh geez... In that case, can it be replaced? I know only few notebooks can have their GPUs changed, but in this case, i would be exchanging it with another 8400M G. Is that possible?

From this picture it looks like it might not be soldered to the motherboard...

But I doubt it. I can't find any replacements available on Google or eBay, so chances are that it is soldered to the motherboard. Given the lack of search results, even if it wasn't, you wouldn't be able to find a replacement...

So basically you need to replace your motherboard in order to replace the GPU.

    hey krakenman,

have you tried older drivers or modded drivers?
Did you do the clean install with the same Windows version than before?

You could try popping in any linux distribution live cd and check if it also glitches your system there.
