    Hi everyone!

The worst thing that could happen to my entertainment life, happened...my gaming laptop died!

Whilst playing a game, I dropped my charger whilst trying to readjust it on the base my laptop to the right of the keyboard. As soon as I done this, the screen turned green, forcing me to restart.

When I restarted, the XMG logo appeared fine at first but then green dots and lines began to appear over it. The sceeen then went black and stayed that way until I powered off again. When I started up again I was able to get into Windows but the resolution was much larger and after looking in the device manager, I found this was because windows had disabled the GPU. ‘Windows has disbaled this device as it has reported problems’

I then uninstalled and reinstalled using the nvidia driver. Once complete the screen went black and stayed that way. Upon restarting, I get past the XMG logo screen before the screen turns black and stays that way. On the third time of restarting, Windows seems to boot using the onboard graphics although strangely enough there are still green lines on the screen.

I decided to remove every NVDIA bit of software from the machine to go for a clean install. This was a mistake because I can now only get into the laptop via safe mode. I have taken the laptop apart and reseated the GPU but I get the same result, there is also no visible damage to the card. It's a beefy charger but I really can't believe this has killed the graphics card! Unless it could be another problem that I'm not seeing? I'm kind of hoping it's the graphics card at this stage...

To confirm, the screen is fine as I've booted into the BIOS which displays correctly. I wanted to upgrade my GPU anyway so might as well take this as an opportunity to do so. The thing I'm struggling with is that buying a new graphics card for a laptop is not as easy as I thought it would be. For a start I can't find anywhere that seems to sell them! If anyone can offer any advice on things I could try or somewhere I can buy a suitable upgraded card that wont bottleneck my system, I would be extremely grateful.

    Thanks for your time!

I mean the 980M is still very powerful, you can run everything on 1080p no problem. Also can you make pictures of your card? Front and back of it. Maybe we can find something, but it sounds indeed that it's dead.

As for where to get those cards, usually ebay is the way to go, you can also look in this forum in the market section, we don't know where you live, so telling us that might help you get some sellers.
