    Sorry to sound like a complete ediot but iwant to upgrade my notebooks ram and cansome one tell me if you have to update the
    BIOS or drivers to do it

    ok thanks because my notebook comes with 2 512MB ram chips instesd of 1 1gb one so i didnt want to spend all that money buying 2 for nothing

    You don't have to purchase two modules of new RAM. Its possible to simply use one of the current modules, and use a new one. 1 GB modules are fairly cheap these days, and you can get one of those and install it, giving a total of 1.5 GB of RAM.
