Note: I did post this once already but for whatever reason it came out blank. I have emailed the admin to have it deleted.

Long story short: I have an Asus G60vx that I was looking to improve the cooling performance on. As part of that I repasted my GPU and CPU (first time ever doing so). I am seeing temps as high as 9 degrees higher at idle (on the GPU) than before.

I suppose this could be part of the 200 hour break in process (Arctic Silver 5) but somehow I dont think so. One issue that I think could be relevant is that the heat sink on the card (GTX 260m) is that sits on some plastic feeling pads. These did have some sticky silly putty like substance on them that I peeled off and I did use AS5 in its place even though it didnt seem like those pads were thermal conducting surfaces. I followed all the cleaning and application instructions to the letter.

Any thoughts, suggestions etc would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

PS this is with my laptop sitting on a Thermaltake laptop cooler.

Sounds like you removed the thermal pads that actually work very well and in this case will do better than any paste. I would order some new pads from Amazon or Newegg and apply them.
