I was an idiot and dropped my laptop. Everything is fine except the screen is in rough shape. There are lines going up it and the bottom right has colours that remain unchanged. The screen exterior isn't actually damaged. Are there any suggestions about what I can do to possibly fix it and what the problem is? Is my only choice to purchase a new screen?

    Thanks in advance

First try using an external monitor, to check that your GPU is fine.

Dropping a notebook will cause damage to the big chips. You could end up needing BGA reworking and all sorts of bad things can happen.

Consider yourself lucky if it's just a damaged screen.

    Lucky you :)

Before you go out and buy a new screen, try re-seating the screen cables (common problem when dropped notebook).

Be carefull when you take it apart though.
