so to make a long story short- the screen on my fairly new HP DV6t-7000 just cracked. the only way i can use my computer is by hooking it up to my TV with a HDMI cable. the problem is school is about to start and im going to need the screen functioning again. I have a few questions so please bear with me :

1- i assume all i need is the screen- not an entire new top half for my laptop. my old screen was cracked pretty bad but im just hoping no internal wires got smashed or anything. I found an online dealer that sells the screen for $80 but before i order i want to make sure that it is in fact all i need? HP quoted me for $290 for the same part so im confused as to why its such a huge price difference

2- when my screen comes in, i plan on fixing it myself- i have read alot of posts on these forums but none have explained how to take the screen off my particular model of laptop. You see, i dont have screws or any rubber removable parts to speak of that would house screws anywhere around my screen. My screen is just covered in plastic with a beats audio logo on it. If anyone has an knowledge on how to remove the screen from these models PLEASE let me know

thanks a lot for the help guys- and one last question- when it comes to tools, all i will need is a small phillips is that correct? thanks again

EDIT- ive added a link to the screen i found hp-compaq HP PAVILION DV6T-7000 replacement Laptop LCD Screen from $59.99 Brand-new screens (never used). from laptopscreen dot com

Is your original screen 1080p or 768p? If it is 768p, I think you are good to go. If 1080p, you may want to ask in the owner lounge about the cable.

thanks for the reply guys . i have the 768 screen. the thing about that link to the manual is that i have read it and it shows you how to take the entire top half of the laptop off- that looks waaaaay harder than the videos on youtube where they only take the front plate off and slide the screen out. i hope that is not what i have to do lol. you gotta learn sometime i guess. anyway, thanks again

Hello, if there are no screw holes and you absolutely sure(they aren't hiding under plastic little sticker covers), and they are not hiding under the hinges, than the LCD bezel pops off. You simply take both of your hands with the LCD laying down and the laptop open(LCD facing UP). You will gently pry up with your fingers as you wiggle them under the Bezel(pulling gently upwards and towards you).

It is really easy once you have done it. I don't know or remember how many LCD's I have changed. Now it is important to be patient and take your time work your way around the LCD staring at the bottom or side of the bezel, some just depend, make sure you notice if you LCD bezel clears the hinges you may have to take the palmrest apart in order to do this.

    Hope this helps...

    Regards,

    Don
