I've heard that 7200rpm hard drives tend to fail more often than the 5400rpm ones. I'm curious to find out if this is true.

Not really, i am using Hitachi 7200rpm and Seagate and Samsung 5400rpm. The both are still good without any defective status.

from what i've heard, they are about the same as far as failure rates go, its just that some people get a bad HD, happened to me once and it was a 5400
