I'm looking for a high perfomance hard drive to put into my aspire 9300.
It has to be a 7200 rpm unit, however i have heard that there is a notebook drive with 16 meg cache on it; however i cant find one. Anyone have any information on such a drive?

yes- your best bet is a Hitachi Travelstar 7k200 200GB 7200 rpm SATA2 9.5mm high hard drive --theyre hard to get hold of in the UK as they are not officially released, I got mine from www.ebay.com , international seller. A current link is: http://cgi.ebay.com/Hitachi-SATA-7k...tcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem but it works out to about £170-180. If you wait a month or so, the UK price is £140

The performance is 25% better than the 100gb Hitachi 7200rpm 7k100 drive, which is otherwise the fastest notebook harddrive. Why not go for a solid state drive, instead?

In UK, Span offer a good range of notebook hard drives (for some reason not including Samsung), although they are not the cheapest.

Solid state is way too expensive for my budget, also i'd like to have at least 160gb of storage space.
i'll take a look at the link you left there john and see what they have. -
I like how the eBay listing says this is the fastest hard drive you could EVER get for your laptop. I guess hard drives are going to suck in the future
